Delicious Veggie Dips & Spreads Packed with Protein

Make your own meatless and dairy-free dips and sandwich spreads with this easy hummus recipe.

Kids learn to love to try new and exotic dishes. If they see you have a passion for new foods they also will love to try them.

This is a simple sandwich spread recipe that your kids will really enjoy. They can dip crackers or veggies in hummus, smear it on toast or pita, or spread it on flat bread to make a rollup sandwich.


Home Made Hummus Spread


1 garlic clove
2 lemons
1 can of chickpeas
3 tablespoons tahini
    (available at a health food or specialty grocery store)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
chopped vegetables
pita bread or crackers


knife or garlic press
measuring spoon


Mince the garlic or mash it with a garlic press.

Juice the lemons.

Measure and mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Mash with a fork to blend well. (For a smoother hummus, you can blend the ingredients in a blender.)

Serve as a dip with chopped vegetables, pita bread or crackers.
