Pastiche Family Portal HomeHow to Create Beautiful Thanksgiving Arrangements and Centerpieces

Your Thanksgiving table should include a festive centerpiece that relates to the harvest holiday season. It's easy to make a beautiful Thanksgiving centerpiece from fall flowers, pumpkins, gourds, and greens in very little time without spending lots of money. Here are a few ideas for making low-cost Thanksgiving centerpieces and floral arrangements.

Platter Arrangement

Simple Fall Table Arrangement: Wheat base with pumpkins, apples, gourds and mum flowers in casual display.

Use a platter or large flat tray as the base. Add a small potted green trailing plant or mum, 5 to 8 colorful small gourds and miniature pumpkins, a few small red, yellow and green apples, and sprigs of fresh or dried greens such as moss, leaves, or parsley.

Place the plant on one side of the platter and place a gourd and two small pumpkins beside it.

Next place the miniature pumpkins and gourds around the platter, and add the apples here and there to fill in the spaces and balance the arrangement.

Place the leaves and/or greens between the apples, gourds, and pumpkins.

Glass Bowl Arrangement

To make a Thanksgiving centerpiece that includes all the symbols of fall, you will need the following:

- a small glass jar or juice glass that fits inside a small pumpkin with its top cut off and the insides scooped out

- 6 or more small gourds

- a few preserved fall leaves

- 1 dozen or so fall flower blossoms such as mums

- 1 cup of fresh cranberries

- nuts or acorns

- shallow glass bowl or soup plate

Place the jar or glass inside the pumpkin and fill halfway with water.

Arrange the flowers in the water and place the pumpkin in the glass bowl. Place the bowl on a large trivet or small tray.

Arrange the leaves, gourds, and cranberries in a random fashion around the pumpkin. Add a few small candles (flameless work well for this type of arrangement) and nuts or acorns.
