We still haven't had a really chilly night at our home, so our gardens are still in full lush bloom and the grass is growing faster than we can keep it trimmed. I made lots of pesto from fresh basil and our own organic garlic, plus DH helped me out and cooked up a big pot of fresh tomato sauce. Both are now safely stored away in the freezer until we get those winter longings for a reminder of our garden's bounty.
Are you ready for harvest parties and Halloween? I'm planning to go to the Great Pumpkin Festival this year in my home town, Milford, New Hampshire. It's been more than 5 years since I last attended, so I'm really looking forward to it.
This annual all-about-town event takes place over Columbus Day weekend, and includes all sorts of family harvest season fun including pumpkin carving (and a lighting ceremony on the village square), biggest pumpkin contest, pumpkin hurling into the local pond, scarecrow making, face painting, pie contests and of course arts and crafts. It's ideal for all ages, but particularly fun for children (and their grandparents ...).
Until next time, have a healthy harvest season!
